The “Six Domains” model
advances current strategies for teaching leadership by providing
instruction on how, beginning with your own innate strengths, you can
develop solid and enduring leadership behaviors. The model is drawn from scientific
research in social psychology, sociology, political science,
anthropology, and organizational behavior. Sitkin and Lind reviewed
research and theory in these fields and concluded that existing models
of leadership are often too limited in their scope, concentrating on
one or two aspects of leadership, while neglecting other equally
important dimensions. Data on the Six Domains model itself has been
collected from more than three thousand survey participants and
analyzed since the model was introduced, providing additional grounding
