The Six Domains Leadership Model
The “Six Domains” model, developed by Sim Sitkin and Allan Lind, is the foundational element of Delta Leadership. The model advances current strategies for teaching leadership by providing instruction on how, beginning with your own innate strengths, you can develop solid and enduring leadership behaviors. By focusing on specific leadership behaviors and their corresponding effects, the Six Domains approach provides a concrete and comprehensive framework for understanding and improving leadership skills and effectiveness.
The model is drawn from scientific research in social psychology, sociology, political science, anthropology, and organizational behavior. Sitkin and Lind reviewed research and theory in these fields and concluded that existing models of leadership are often too limited in their scope, concentrating just a few aspects of leadership, while neglecting other equally important dimensions. Data on the Six Domains model itself has been collected from over four thousand survey participants and analyzed since the model was introduced, providing additional grounding in rigorous behavioral science research.
